Worst athletes in the movies?

Not to be outdone by last week's list of the five best fictional athletes in the movies, Observer copy desk supervisor Tom Parks offers a list of the five worst athletes in the movies, fictional or not. Hey, Tom, is this because you relate better to these guys?

5. Ogilvie. "Bad News Bears." Brainy kid better suited to helping the team as an assistant coach than on the field.

4. Henry Steele. "One on One." Robby Benson plays a college basketball player in over his head. He is convincing.

3. Ollie. "Hoosiers." You may never be in a sports movie, but at least you shoot free throws overhand.

2. Rudy. "Rudy." Inspirational, yes. Persistent, yes. A hero, yes. But not a natural talent by any means.

1. Nuke LaLoosh. "Bull Durham." OK, here's a natural talent. But give me an eight-ball and I'll nail Kevin Costner right between the eyes from 10 paces.

Did Tom miss a bad athlete in the movies, or do you just disagree with his list? (The O List editor doesn't think Nuke was that bad.) Put your thoughts in the comments below.

Anthony Perkins as a baseball player in "Fear Strikes Out". He throws a baseball like Norman Bates' mom would.

How about every bball player on Teen Wolf (except the wolf, he was sick! haha).

How about ANY movie where Adam Sandler tries to attempt to sorta' look like an athlete. The Longest Yard? You gotta' be kidding me!

How about every player on A League of Their Own except for the catcher (Geena Davis)? Or the kid in The Sandlot who who didn't know who Babe Ruth was?

Why are you gonna do cocaine and throw things at Kevin Costner?

Woody Harrelson as an ex college basketball player in White Men Can't Jump. He could play on most HS teams. Wesley Snipes wasn't much better

Correcting my previous comment..

Woody Harrelson as an ex college basketball player in White Men Can't Jump. He COULDN'T play on most HS teams. Wesley Snipes wasn't much better.

Robbie Benson would run circles around both of them on the court.

John Kinsella's father in "Field of Dreams" - even in a fantasy sports movie you would think they could cast a guy who looked like a catcher and could actually throw and catch.

It's good to have an attitude, but I think your crazy wrong about this one: when is the last time you saw ROBBY BENSON'S ONE ON ONE? He wrote the script and Benson was an amazing player and a real athlete. I saw him play at a charity event at USC in Columbia in 1990 and he still had the real stuff. (he could jump and his 3 pointers were dead on!) Billy Mills the only US 10000 meter Olympic gold medal winner personally chose him to portray him in RUNNING BRAVE where he actually competed with world class runners...watching BENSON'S kick at the end of the race is the most exciting of any film I've seen. Catch up!
